Ethan Hunter Comes Home Seventh in 21st Annual Magnolia State 100

September 29th, 2010

Tiger, Georgia – After a wild two days, 18 year old Georgia young gun Ethan Hunter claims a top ten in the 21st Annual Magnolia State 100 presented by Premier Ford at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi. Hunter had previously only visited the track deemed “The Baddest Bullring in the South” on one other occasion in 2008 when he placed 10th in the Mississippi Triple Crown event. Hunter was very happy with his performance. “There were definitely a lot of great cars down there. I am very proud of how well we ran against that level of competition. Seventh is an improvement from the first time we were there so maybe we can go back again soon and improve a little more. I really like the racetrack. It is badfast and started out really hooked up and then kept getting slicker and slicker. It is a fun place to race at for sure.” Hunter said of his outing.

Hunter started off his weekend by laying down a qualifying lap of 13.798 seconds which was good enough for fast time in his group. Hunter clocked in ahead of drivers like veteran Terry English of Benton, Kentucky and perennial Columbus Speedway winner Anthony Rushing of Kosciusko, Mississippi. Hunter continued to show his strength on Friday night by leading all 15 laps of his heat to take the win and secure his sixth starting spot for the 100 lap feature on Saturday night. “My car was really good around the top in the heat race. But being out front it was hard to tell just how hard I needed to run, so I tried to be smooth but run as fast as I could up against the wall. It worked out pretty good because we ended up winning by about half a straightaway over Terry (English).” Hunter added. Read the rest of this entry »

Ethan Hunter Motorsports Prepares for Southern Nationals Run

July 8th, 2010

Tiger, Georgia – Ethan Hunter and his EHM race team are hard at work in their Tiger, Georgia shop preparing their #15 Rocket Chassis Race Car for the upcoming Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals. The team plans to run the entire ten-race series in hopes of picking up the $5,353 champions check. “We ran the whole series in 2008 and did pretty well. We had some motor issues that set us back but we still ended up ninth in the final point standings. Considering the guys that ran the whole series that year I think we did pretty well.” Hunter said.

Hunter now feels more prepared than ever to take on a touring challenge. “We finally have our engine program in really good shape. We will have a few engines available to us. We have a Randy Clary motor that was just freshened and then we have our Custom Race Engine. So we can pick the right one for the track we will be racing at.”

“Our Rocket Chassis is definitely up to the task and it’s ready to go with our GW Performance shock package. So I feel like we are really prepared and have a good shot at it.” Hunter added. Hunter has already found victory lane three times thus far in 2010 and the young Georgia wheelman is poised for more wins. “We have all the right pieces in place to put ourselves in victory lane. Now we just need to have good luck on our side and we can add to that win total.” Hunter said.

Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals Series kicks off on Monday night, July 12 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. The popular Southeastern Dirt Late Model mini-series will once again sanction ten events in a matter of only thirteen days in the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. The ultra-competitive tour has five events on the schedule that will pay $5,300 to win and five shows that will pay $3,500 to the winner. Ethan Hunter Motorsports Launches New Website – Set for Lavonia’s Late Model Mania

April 3rd, 2010

Tiger, Georgia – Young gun dirt late model pilot Ethan Hunter and his Ethan Hunter Motorsports Team are proud to announce their launch of their new home on the World Wide Web located at www.ethanhunterracing.com The brand new website designed by Butler Motorsports Media will chronicle the young Georgian’s pursuit of victory lanes throughout the southeast and beyond. Having narrowly missed the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series Rookie of the Year title in 2009, Hunter will forgo chasing points in 2010 and focus on building his program at select events in his region. Hunter was unanimously selected as the 2009 Most Improved Driver by his Southern All Stars peers.

At the ripe old age of eighteen, Ethan Hunter has already amassed a thirteen year racing career that has taken him from go karts to super late models. Hunter has also had brief stops during his career in four cylinder pony cars, crate late models and steel head late models. All along the way Hunter has picked up wins (including a Fastrak Touring win in crates and three super late model triumphs) and it so seems, more importantly; he has become a student of the sport which he chose.

Hunter found much success in karting, racking up more than fifty feature wins and the 2001 Georgia State Blue Plate Championship. In 2003 his family decided to move him into racing stock cars. Hunter began racing weekly at Georgia tracks like Toccoa Speedway, Lavonia Speedway and Highway 106 Speedway all of which were within an hour of his Tiger, Georgia home. It didn’t take long for the youngster to hit pay dirt. He scored his first career win at Toccoa Speedway in the first few weeks of racing the pony car. From there on out Hunter knew he had found his calling. “I grew up around racing. My dad (Jeff) owned steel head late models that raced at Toccoa (GA) and Lavonia (GA). So I decided one day that racing is what I wanted to do. So I paid attention and picked up as much as I could just hanging around and working on my dad’s cars.”

“I know that if I want to excel in racing that I need to learn as much as I possibly can about every aspect of it. I need to understand it all from the car itself to track surfaces, tires, set-ups, shocks, maintenance – everything. I would like to think I have learned something at every level that I can apply to whatever I happened to be racing.” Hunter has also been fortunate that he has had several people that helped him shorten his learning curve. “Gary Winger at GW Performance has also been instrumental in our program. He is one of the best crew chiefs in racing and he has really been a help to me. Tony Knowles and Shane Clanton have both been a huge help to me since we started running Rockets. I can pick up the phone and call either one of them and know that they are going to do their best to help me get going in the right direction.” Hunter says.

In preparing for upcoming special events, Hunter has already picked up his first win of the season – scoring the weekly super late model victory at the Toccoa Speedway on Saturday, March 27th. Hunter will look to use the experience and track time he amassed with the victory when the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series returns to Toccoa for a $5000 to win event on Saturday, April 10th. This weekend Hunter again will be in familiar digs as he enters the $5000 to win Southern All Stars Late Model Mania event at the Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, Georgia. Hunter finished 12th in the same event of 2009. “We want to improve on that finish, maybe get a top five and we will feel good about it.” Hunter said.
